Dames

Program and Brunch

with the Warriors

at Indian Hill Club

January 13, 2019

On a cold January Sunday the Dames, Warriors and guests enjoyed our annual Dames – Warrior Brunch at Indian Hill Club.  Dr. Robert Morrissey gave a fascinating presentation on the history of Fort de Chartres. We all learned a lot about our Illinois colonial history and he sparked our interest in visiting the fort next October.

Did you know that Fort de Chartres was the second largest French fort built in North American and considered to be the finest stone fort in America.  It is thought that the impetus behind the fort’s restoration which began in earnest 1917 may have been for Illinois’ centennial celebration.  By the 1720’s Illinois colonists were exporting corn and wheat to Louisiana and the Caribbean which is what made this land valuable to the French for their sugar cane trade.

All enjoyed camaraderie and conversations during the reception and luncheon.  As always there were the popovers.
