Patriotic Service: No Dough Dinner

Many thanks to Chris Gretchko for her able leadership of the No Dough on 11-13-20.

Due to the pandemic, the format of the No Doughs has been changed to an outdoor pick-up in front of the Community Center at Naval Station Great Lakes. The sailors and their families line up in their cars to pick up individually packaged dinners from a volunteer.  Tonight’s meal was from George’s Gyros.

After the volunteers had distributed 293 meals, the temperature dropped below freezing.  The USO deemed it unsafe for the volunteers to continuing serving outdoors due to the cold and stopped the distribution.  The remaining 207 meals were taken to the base, where they will be distributed to the sailors by base personnel.

Many thanks to Dames Diane Eubanks and Marion Christoph, who volunteered on this cold evening in addition to Chris.  Also assisting were Lori and Budd Webster, whose daughter is the wife of Chris’s son.  Budd was formerly in the Navy and vividly remembered the time he spent in training at Naval Station Great Lakes.
