Embracing technology of the moment, President Claudia Lane hosted the Illinois Society’s 124th Annual Meeting via Zoom. Largely hunkered down at home, citizens complying with government orders, we somehow managed to maintain our beloved traditional practices in a new digital environment.
Sixty-one Dames and Candidates — many of whom had practiced Zoom together during three special, earlier training sessions — gathered to celebrate 2019-2020, a busy year notable for a great many successes thanks to the combined efforts of an array of Illinois Dames. While the year may have closed with ruptured routines and challenging times, the spirit of this society carried the day. We were gratified by the astounding attendance, and the warmth and good cheer exceeded our expectations in this unfamiliar milieu.
We will enjoy a typical year starting in the fall. Rest assured that we will offer programs, social events, and meaningful connections between our members, either in our traditional format or remotely. The Illinois Society can take great satisfaction that a group dedicated to the understanding and promotion of history can so easily adapt to what our current circumstances demand, at this moment in time, beginning our 125th year!
