Undaunted Courage: Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson,
and the Opening of the American West
by Stephen Ambrose
Feeling bookish – maybe, just maybe? Well, try us sometime! Our Dames book club is both a home for serious readers and the casual browser. Multiple interpretations, debate and discussion guaranteed. The fall reading selection was Undaunted Courage: Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, and the Opening of the American West by Stephen Ambrose, the definitive book on Lewis and Clark’s exploration of the Louisiana Purchase, the most momentous expedition in American history and one of the great adventure stories of all time. Thank you to all our Dames for continuing to inspire and invite us on a shared reading adventure. As we leaf through great autumn reads, this is an essential for any history buff.
Enjoying the book talk and continental breakfast were: Jean Brown, Cami Burgess, Carla Carstens Herr, Paula Jurisson, Ginny McTier, Nancye Mowry, Nancy Robinson, Nancy Schultz, Cammie Schumacher, Kathy Taylor, Judith Urban and Sally Veeder.
Thank you to Dames Nancy Robinson for leading the book discussion and Judith Urban for hosting the suburban meeting at her home in Glenview on September 11th.
